With low local competition, affordable rents, plenty of space to park and an active and supportive local network, Creative Catering’s Jacob Ferreo says Wangara provides all the right ingredients for his successful catering business. While many associate a chef’s career with late nights and unsociable hours, Jacob and his wife Natalie turned challenge into opportunity when they started Creative Catering more than 11 years ago.
“We are a family owned and run business. We’re two chef-owners with a passion for food and good service, creating amazing, unforgettable delicacies. We also provide bar/wait staff, chefs and managers, set up bars, kitchens, events and everything in between,” said Jacob.
“We love the hospitality industry, but being a chef is often not conducive to a good quality of family life. So, Natalie and I created a kitchen where it is mostly daytime work during the week. Working so close to home, I can take my kids to and from school daily, which is something not a lot of chefs get to do,” he said.
In addition to relishing the work/home balance, Creative Catering has enjoyed exponential business growth, with its success recognised by a buffet of awards and accolades.
Winning Best Small Caterer in Australia 2015, Best Event Caterer WA 2016 and 2020, and Caterer of the Year WA 2020, Creative Catering have found their niche providing high-quality service and food to private and corporate clients in the northern-corridor.
Jacob said the Wangara location makes reaching his hungry customers a piece of cake: “We cater to all events, large and small. With direct access to arterial roads and freeways, we’re easily able to deliver to any location, as well as set up events throughout Perth, creating unforgettable experiences in any location you might wish to have a party,” he said.
As members of the Wanneroo Business Association, Jacob and his team enjoy attending local events and networking opportunities, and he recommends other businesses considering locating in the area make the most of opportunities to connect. Crediting referrals and word-of-mouth promotion as an important part of the business’ success, Jacob encourages other businesses to make the most of the training, courses, networking, and support offered by the City of Wanneroo and local business associations to build strong local connections.
“We’re excited to move into the next stage of growth for our business, as we refine our services and expand into new types of events and catering jobs across the state,” said Jacob.
“Locating our business here in Wangara has helped us achieve work/life balance as we grow a really successful business. And as every great chef knows – it’s all about balance.”
